The First Hunger

V. The First Hunger

The girl in the paintings has been fourteen years old for fifteen centuries. Her name is Domelch, and Thomas Learmonth knows the creature standing behind her. The discovery takes Thomas and Charlotte into a history older than the vampire houses, older than the Vigil, and older than the stories vampires have told about themselves. Domelch remembers things no living vampire should remember. Places that vanished centuries ago. Blood that carried memories of its own. A warning left by the creature she called her father. Do not wait to see what comes through. Now strange activity has begun beneath Domelch’s Highland land. The Vigil is moving again. Prisoners are being taken, old stone has been disturbed, and a mark Thomas hoped never to see again has appeared where the earth was meant to remain closed.
